Instructions

  1. Butter two large cookie sheets, then set them aside.
  2. In a 2 qt.
  3. saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch.
  4. Add corn syrup, water, butter, and salt.
  5. Mix well before heating.
  6. Bring mixture to boil on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches 250 degrees Fahrenheit on candy thermometer (hard ball stage).
  7. Remove from heat, and immediately stir in the Kool-Aid powder.
  8. Quickly pour onto prepared cookie sheets.
  9. Let stand a few minutes, until cool enough to handle with your hands.
  10. Grab a few helpers to pull the taffy with buttered hands until the taffy lightens its color and becomes firmer.
  11. Roll taffy into bite-sized pieces.
  12. Wrap individually in squares of wax paper.
