Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, tapioca, and salt in a saucepan; stir in milk and egg.
  2. Let stand 5 minutes.
  3. Add chopped chocolate squares and instant coffee.
  4. Cook, stirring over medium heat, until mixture comes to a full boil and chocolate is blended, about 15 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  6. Cool for 20 minutes; stir and chill.
  7. Serve with whipped topping if desired.
