Ingredients

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup chopped bell pepper

1 medium tomatoes, chopped

1 can chunky Italian-style tomato sauce

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon anise seed

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

1 loaf French bread
-
1/4-1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese

coarsely ground pepper

1 lb ground sausage
Instructions
- In a skillet, cook sausage until no longer pink.
- Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook onion and green pepper until tender, drain.
- Stir in tomato sauce, tomatoes and seasonings.
- Add meat to sauce.
- Cut a wedge out of top of bread about 2 inches wide and 3/4 way through the loaf.
- Fill loaf with meat sauce.
- Sprinkle with cheese and ground pepper.
- Wrap in heavy-duty foil.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 30 minutes or until heated through.
