Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan.
  2. Add the onions and saute for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the apple dice and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Add the chopped beef and mix together.
  5. Squeeze out the excess milk from the bread slices.
  6. Tear up the bread slices and add to pot.
  7. Add the curry powder, raisins, almonds, lemon juice, egg, and turmeric, and stir well.
  8. Place mixture in a greased 9 x 13" baking dish.
  9. Place bay leaves vertically in the casserole.
  10. Bake at 325 degrees F for 40 minutes, then remove from the oven.
  11. Mix together the egg and milk
  12. Then pour it over the Bobotie.
  13. Bake for 15 more minutes.
  14. Remove bay leaves before serving.
